Sustainable Products Set To Become Popular in 2025

Consumer awareness around unsustainable packaging and carbon heavy supply chains has fuelled a huge rise in the number of eco-friendly goods coming onto the market.
This is reflected in the most recent figures collected by the Office of National Statistics in 2023 where 86.5 per cent of adults reported having made at least some changes to their lifestyle to help tackle environmental issues.
While refill products, biodegradable packaging and vegan food and beauty goods became increasingly popular last year, other types of more sustainable products are set to trend this year.
Eco-friendly cleaning products
Green cleaning products have been on the market for a few years now but are becoming popular among consumers who are increasingly aware of the harm caused by microplastics and harsh chemicals.
In particular, sustainable laundry sheets are revolutionising the way we wash our clothes. The slim plant-based, biodegradable sheets began to gain popularity online last year but are now widely available in UK supermarkets.
They’re easy to use, just as effective as laundry liquid or powder and need a tiny proportion of storage space compared to bulky plastic containers or cardboard boxes.
Eco-friendly homeware & fashion
Sheets, matts and throws are increasingly being made from organic cotton, hemp, and bamboo, which need less water and pesticides to grow.
Organic and upcycled and recycled fabrics are now commonly used to make clothing unique and sustainable.
This year may see a trend in the use of eco-friendly dyeing methods for clothing with natural dyes made from flowers and vegetables and reducing the number of harmful chemicals released in manmade dyes causing water pollution.
Couple this with the Competition and Markets Authority’s ability to fine fashion companies who make false claims about sustainability, truly eco-friendly fashion brands are likely to be a big hit with consumers.
External shading to keep your home cool
As our climate heats up, the UK is suffering more extreme heatwaves in the summer when solar glare can make offices and homes unbearably stuffy.
External blinds and shading is increasingly being seen as a sustainable solution among architects rather than expensive and energy guzzling air conditioning units.
Fitted outside the windows, they can be controlled remotely and are extremely effective at blocking out the sun’s harmful rays.
In fact, external shading can reduce the temperature inside a room by 5 degrees, the difference between the room being comfortable or too hot.
Electric Vehicles
The number of electric vehicles sold is expected to increase in 2025, building on last year’s figure of 382,000 EVs registered, equivalent to 20 per cent of all new car sales.
The UK is accelerating towards electrification due to government net zero goals, heightened consumer interest in cutting carbon emissions, a wider range of EVs on the market and cheaper models.
The government is also ramping infrastructure so that more renewable energy sources via solar carports and wind power can be connected to the national grid and more charging stations are built across the country to meet demand.
Gadgets powered by solar energy
Gadgets running on the sun always seemed to be futuristic, but the world is seeing more and more innovative products come onto the market including more advanced solar phone chargers.
Worried about your headphones running low? Then look no further than headphones which charge themselves via the band while you’re out and about.
Other solar-powered gadgets on the market include smart watches and exercise trackers but look out for eyewear and even clothing in the near future which can charge your phone and other devices.
