The NEC – Shaped Window External Blinds Project

The National Exhibition Centre (NEC) in Birmingham is one of the UK’s premier venues for trade shows, exhibitions, events, and conferences of all sizes. Housing 20 exhibition halls alongside a variety of meeting and conference rooms available for hire, the NEC is known for its versatility and extensive facilities.

However, the building's unique architectural design, featuring unusual sloping windows, posed a significant challenge when the existing blinds reached the end of their lifespan. Without adequate room darkening solutions, one of the conference rooms could no longer be rented out, impacting the venue's overall functionality and revenue.

To address this issue, Kensington Blinds collaborated with the NEC to develop a customized motorized blackout blind solution. These specially shaped blinds were meticulously designed to fit the sloping windows, ensuring complete room darkening as required for various events. Additionally, Kensington Blinds installed shaped vertical blinds for the triangular windows at the end of the room, further enhancing light control and privacy.

With the successful installation of these innovative blinds, the previously unusable conference room was transformed, restoring its availability for hire. This not only improved the operational capabilities of the NEC but also helped to reinforce its reputation as a top-tier venue capable of meeting diverse client needs.
