Installing Your Exterior Blinds
Topfix exterior blinds are designed to be versatile, offering coverage even for very large windows; we also offer a variant designed specifically for Velux windows.
These blinds are heavy, so it’s important to ensure the roof you are proposing to fit them to is able to sustain their weight (which will depend on the size of the blind). It’s also crucial to ensure there is suitable fixing grounds for the blinds to attach to. Metal window frames or wooden pattresses are suitable substrates, subject to site survey.
We do not recommend fitting blinds directly to a roof membrane because of the risk of puncturing it; similarly, it isn’t possible to fit TopFix to frameless glass - a frame or something to mount the blind on like a pattress will be required.
Electrical Requirements & Home Automation
Topfix blinds are very flexible when it comes to wiring, and can be connected with fused spurs, outdoor plugs or powered by solar if installing power is not possible. The blinds are compatible with both wall switches (hard wiring only) and radio remote controlled motors. They can also be seamlessly connected to a wide range of smart home systems, including Google Assistant, Alexa, SmartThings, HomeKit, Sonos, Philips and Hue.
Wiring In
Recommended where possible. You will need a 13A 230V fused spur located within 300mm of the top of the window reveal for the blinds to be wired into.
Solar Control
If there is no electricity in the proposed installation area, you can choose solar-powered Topfix blinds instead.
NB Solar is only available for blinds up to 12m2 in size.
Frames & Fabrics
Topfix frames, including the headbox, side channels and components including barrels and hembars, are manufactured from high quality aluminium with a robust powdercoated finish. Aluminium is easily recycled and ideal for withstanding harsh weather conditions due to its resistance to corrosion. Renson offer powdercoating in almost any RAL colour and a range of finishes to ensure a seamless match to your façade.
We use high quality fabrics from well-known European manufacturers including Mermet and Serge Ferrari. Manufactured from tough fibreglass fibres, they are available in several different opennesses as well as full blackouts. Proven to be extremely effective at reflecting heat, our range is designed and tested to withstand harsh environments.
With a huge range available, you are certain to find the right fabric and colour for your needs.
